Voltage and current, as water

A tank, a pipe and a pump, in 3D. Raise the water and watch the pipe; then watch the same loop turn into a battery, a wire and a resistor. With a voice, on a laptop, a phone or a VR headset.

Using it

  • Drag the orange knob beside the tank up and down, or use the slider under the picture. Both move the same water.
  • A step that asks you to do something moves on by itself once you have done it. A step that only tells you something waits for Next.
  • In a VR headset — Meta Quest, Apple Vision Pro — open this page in the headset’s browser and press Enter VR. Point at the knob and pinch, or pull the trigger, to drag it. The captions and buttons are on a panel to the right.
  • In the headset, the sky is NASA’s Deep Star Maps (NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center Scientific Visualization Studio; Gaia DR2: ESA/Gaia/DPAC). The portraits of Volta, Ampère and Ohm are public-domain engravings.
