The TK96 at an angle: a black board with a gold edge, a tall frosted clear keycap over a keyboard switch with a white housing and a pale blue stem, two round LEGO holes near the bottom corners, a right-angle four-pin header out of the bottom edge, and a small resistor beside it.

Mechanical Key and LED

A keyboard switch with a WS2812 RGB LED under its clear keycap, as two separate circuits: the key reads HIGH when pressed through its own 10 kΩ pull-down, and the LED shows whatever colour your sketch sends it. VCC is your board's logic voltage.

A press reads
HIGHthrough a 10 kΩ pull-down
VCC
3V3 or 5Vyour board's logic voltage
Light
WS2812one, on its own data pin
Height
24.06mm to the top of the keycap

Turn it over and see all four holes wired: BUTTON is the key's side of the switch with a 10 kΩ pull-down, WS2812 the LED's data input. Look under the keycap for the 2 mm LED that lights it.
