The TK27 at an angle: a black board with a wide gold border, a round black microphone capsule in a foam ring near the top, a small transistor and a few resistors and capacitors beside it, a gold microphone icon, lonely binary up the left edge, ANALOG in a box on the right, and a right-angle four-pin header labelled GND, VCC, NC and SIGNAL.3D

Analog Microphone

An electret capsule and a one-transistor amplifier on a TinkerBlock board. SIGNAL rests at a level set by the transistor's gain and swings above and below it with sound, in a band of roughly 75 Hz to 1 kHz. Read the peak-to-peak over 50 ms: it hears claps, knocks and loud voices, and it is not a recording microphone.

Hears best
75 Hz to 970Hz from 5 V
Rests at
1.6 to 4.0V from 5 V, by part
A clap
50ms window: read the swing
VCC
3.3or 5 V, to match your board

Turn it over and see the three holes to wire: GND, VCC and SIGNAL. The microphone is the round part at the top; SIGNAL is an analog level that swings when a loud sound arrives.

Point a phone camera at the code and this page opens there. It is the same address as the one printed on your box, so it is also what to show someone you are passing the board to.
